Today, I welcome myself to the world of blogs.
I never thought that my 1st blog would be on such a serious issue.
Getting straight to the point, I read an article 2 days back in the papers that a nanny rented out a 7 month old kid to beggars for a daily income of Rs.100. At first I skipped the article labeling it as one more act of crime among many others. But something kept nagging me and finally I went through the article.
Let me give a brief description of the case – ‘A couple work in MNCs and have a 7 month old kid. They had appointed a nanny through a well known agency to take care of the kid as they were out of the house for most part of the day. However the nanny used to sedate the kid, dress it in rags and hand over to beggars for Rs.100 a day and have the baby returned well before the parents came back from work. One day the mother came home early to find her baby missing and the nanny confessed to her heinous act.’
In the macro level, I feel that this incident would not have happened if system of joint family was being followed. By joint family, I do not mean a palatial house with 25-30 members but atleast comprising of grandparents – parents – children. This ensures that even if the parents are not able to look after their children, the grandparents will happily oblige to look after the kids. This will not only be good for the children but the grandparents will also not feel lonely.
I feel that this idea of a family will do wonders for parents in cases where both are working. Of course this thought of mine will hold good only if the grandparents are themselves alive and healthy enough.
I’m ending my 1st blog by expressing my gratitude to my grandparents who raised me so well when my parents went to their offices.
Hope to be back soon!!
